Jesus Nunez

2018 Linda A. Day Endowed Student Award Recipient

Jesus Nunez is a Southern California based artist who is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree at California State University, Long Beach. Born in Paramount, California, he’s first generation Mexican-American and the first person of his family to pursue the arts. As a child he showed an interest in drawing. Then in his senior year of high school he began tattooing. Wanting to improve his ability to draw, he continued his education and discovered a love for drawing and painting.  He has exhibited in many group shows, both within and outside of academia. His two most recent exhibitions were in Art without Borders, in Florence, Italy, 2018, and Telling, at CSULB’s Maxine Merlino Gallery, 2019.

Artist Statement

My work reflects my cultural background and my experiences being first generation American. My focus is in figurative drawings and paintings and trying to use the figure to make narrative work.
